What Do You Need On a Truck Transporting Gasoline or Diesel or Kerosene?

  1. Current and valid commercial driver’s license with HAZMAT endorsement.
  2. Shipping paper.
  3. If empty, copy of previous load shipping paper.
  4. Previous shift’s post trip inspection form.
  5. Documentation (report, sticker, decal) of the most recent periodic inspection must be on the vehicle.
  6. Proof of hazardous materials fee paid to federal government (RSPA).
  7. Current registration certificate from the state.
  8. Proof of insurance.
  9. If interstate operation, copy of current year IFTA license.
  10. If interstate operation, copy of IRP cab card.
  11. Current medical examination card and waiver of physical defects if necessary.
  12. If recording hours on logs, logs for last 7 days.

Where do you keep the paperwork?

    When the driver is at the vehicle’s controls, the shipping paper shall be:

  1. Within his immediate reach while he is restrained by the lap belt; and
  2. Either readily visible to a person entering the driver’s compartment or in a holder which is mounted to the side of the door on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
  3. When the driver is not at the vehicle’s controls, the shipping paper shall be:

  4. In a holder which is mounted to the inside of the door on the driver’s side of the vehicle: or
  5. On the driver’s seat in the vehicle.
